14 Months

Did I, again… miss the monthly birthday?  Darn.  All day long, NOTE TO SELF NOTE TO SELF and then it slipped away, the sun went down, jammie time, and it was too late.  So here it is, a day or two late!    My little Booboo is 14 months old and just finally sprung her second tooth.  Just barely broken through on the top right.  We noticed a clicking noise emitting from the baby, and a day later, realized it was two teeth gnashing together like a beaver.  A cute, little hairless beaver.  Did I just say that?  What is wrong with me?  ANYWAY.  My Boobooooo.  She is 14 months and has big, crazy hair that looks like robin’s wings most of the time.  And she finally gives kisses to daddy.  I started calling her Booboo out of nowhere, I’m not even sure why.  Probably just evolved from her babbling baba, abba, and out came booboo.  And then the very next day, that Yogi Bear movie came on and Pete said, “see, there’s Booboo,” and it was JT.  So everything is connected and everything happens for a reason!

Crusty, Greenie, or Sticky?

We got to take Lucy to her first rock show today, a Ramones-inspired kiddie band called the Boogers.  I found myself much more excited than I had thought I would be.  Her first concert! And it’s actually enjoyable music, and there is food and beer and great energy and ambiance!  I guess I thought it would be like the Lamb Chop and Shari Show.  But it was just like any other Beat Kitchen show, except with lots of miniatures running around and parents who were probably former rockers.

We got her dressed up in a somewhat punk-rock get up, and went with the standard “I just woke up from a nap” hair.

Checking out the stage beforehand with dad.

We got an impromptu invitation to attend what I guess you could call: an after party!  Or rather, a birthday party for a little girl who lives in our neighborhood and our families keep running into each other!  Lots of great parents and kids.  And Lucy officially “colored” for the first time, though by the looks of this picture, you’d think she was a pro.  She must have been copying the other kids with this pose.  And maybe choosing the right hand?

Yay! Baby got her first rock CD!  There’s gonna be a whole lot of wheels on buses goin’ round and round in here.

I sometimes can’t believe just how tiny she is.  Looking like a little adult walking around, but knee high.

Boy, when I was single and going to see shows at the Beat Kitchen and eating their delicious brunch food… I really never pictured this little munchkin walking through that back room.  Joy!

Who’s Afraid of Virgin Snow?

Went to Cricket Hill today at Montrose to go sledding. Lucy was in excellent spirits, right up until we put on the snowpants and boots and dropped her into the snow.  She didn’t like it at all, and cried when ever we set her down in it.  Whaaat?  No like the snow?  That’s unpossible. We will have to keep trying, because we live in the land of snow and also there is a sled hill, walking distance away.  Well… I had a really good time, anyway.

Sicky

Turns out Lucy had Roseola, which I had never heard of before but apparently it is super common and every baby and toddler gets it.  Humph, who knew.  It starts out with a very high fever and no other symptoms, and days later the fever breaks, and then a rash appears.  A rash that covers the body and looks just like measles, so it is a little concerning.  She seems to  be doing fine now, almost a week later.

I mentioned the illness to Aunt Jenny and she asked me if I was familiar with Roseola, and I said no.  She shared a funny anecdote, in that apparently when she was adopted, her mother wanted to name her “Rosie” and her father put the kibosh on the name, because he said “Rosie Role” sounds too much like the disease Roseola!  Pretty clever dad.  Incidentally, 40+ years later, they did give the name Rosie to their dog!
